Hey guys and girls, ive had a few years out from owning a discovery and now need a bigger car so I am going back to it. Looking at either a 200tdi 300 or a td5 now.......... this is the hard bit. will I be better off getting a higher mileage td5 or a lower mileage 200 or 300 tdi. Never had a diesel disco had 2 V8's in the past. One other thing is that I got a RRC a few years back and the previous owner put a disco 20otdi in and it went like stink! Had so much more pull and power than my mates defender 200tdi. I am going to do a few mods to get some extra power and wondered what people would recommend. Thinking starting with basics of good service performance filter, decat maybe larger intercooler. What else can I do to the turbo and how much can you tweak it before its all smoke and a big bang?

loads of questions I know.
Cheers

Like you, I've been a v8 fan for a long time having had 3 v8 landys. A few months ago I bought my 300tdi because it's got no electronic wizardry to go wrong. I tweaked the fuel pump and boy, what a difference. I'm getting a full width Allisport inter cooler next week and look forward to much more torque.

Bite the bullet, buy a 300 Tdi ;)

think its going to be the way forward, I want as little to go wrong so will go with a nice lower mileage 300tdi.

I personally prefer the TDi engines compared to the td5's. i like the torque curve and power delivery more, and the fact it is easy for me to look after! Its pretty simple to tweak the pump etc, not much point in messing with the turbo, its already at 1bar, any more and things wont last long! Intercooler change is a good idea, a cheap option is a p38 dse intercooler. Not sure what a different filter would do, but a raised air intake is good, gives a forced cool air induction, out of the way of dist and mud :)
