Hmm, good to see the usual handbags can still be thrown about.

I like the point of the video, freebys get loads of abuse from others for not having the capabilities of the other LR models.

Yet when shown at a cross axel challenge, the freeby copes and the Disco 2 and 3 cope.
The ones having issues are the models that everyone keeps saying are the real LR products, yet they cant seem to cope with having a wheel in the air.

The 110 with the lift, mach5 wheels and external cage is clearly used off road alot so that should have coped with it but never.

And given the only mods to the freeby are tyres and a stronger guard it makes it a bit funny imo. It has the v6 that likes to destroy itself, and has the standard ground clearance etc but it went over the stuff fine.

Imo, the best LR from that video was the Disco3 as the holes may as well not been there for all the trouble the D3 had.

Now if you dont mind, ive my hair to straighten etc before i go out for the night.

Somewhere above someone said these vehicles should have been ok. Un to a certain extent I agree. Not all of the vehicles were at fault. Some was driving error. Probably not been orf road before or still getting to know their vehicles. We all have to learn somewhere.

The red 90 had traction control. I dont know if its switchable onable offable on a tratter. It int on me Freelander. Unfortunately the driver didnt continue wiv the power when the TC came on. If he had of he'd have probably got started again a bit quicker. He managed after the marshal spoke to him via the passenger window.

Also when tratters are cross axled un 1 front and 1 rear wheel spins, power is lost through the spinning wheels. If yer watch carefully some of the tratterers chose their path across the twister differently to those who struggled. Not sure if they realised this. But it kept 3 wheels mostly on the ground, rather than 2 wiv the other 2 spinning. Rear diff lock would have those who had trouble. Some slittys have a rear diff locker. But unfortunately I didnt film them.

To be fair traction control copes easily with 1 wheel off the ground as does old style 4x4 on a Series or locked centre diff.......all can be improved with axle diff locks

I too would have enjoyed seeing the Freelander's run-through from the outside.

As for the cross-axle bit - diagonally opposite wheels in the air doesn't bother a Freelander one little bit. I have stopped with one wheel in the air - got out - walked round - then got back in and drove off. They even demonstrate this at the LandRover Experience days.

If it was physically possible to get 3 wheels in the air that still would be no problem. I think. (Don't try that at home folks)

Many people don't know that about a Freelander and think they can't do these kind of things.

The bigger LandRovers SHOULD be able to those things - and COULD do those things by correctly selecting diff-locks, low ratio etc - but the trouble is many owners don't know how to drive their vehicle properly.

Present company excepted -of course.

Same axle twister but going the other way, I deliberately "parked" with the vehicle rocking on 2 wheels, my missus took the shot from outside the fence, you can just see the marshalls leg appearing centre right, he asked me did I need a push, I was a bit surprised because we just drove off with the traction control doing it's thing. Later my missus told me they had pushed quite a few Defenders & Disco's, probably older models without traction control. I tend not to get involved in these arguments but in my opinion in certain conditions a Freelander 1 copes much better than Disco's & Defenders ................cue the tratter boys

Yer but no but I did stop the second time through on the second course. Un yer can see I stopped and the angle means 1 wheel wouldn't be touching ground. that should be enough?

FFS :doh: The course was CE approved so the sprouts liked it.

The full title of that section of the course was too long fer the title. But just fer you, ere it is:

"Axle Twister to test driver capability of beam axle vehicles, and Suspension Tester to test driver capability of independent suspension vehicles"
