Well I do feel silly asking this. I can't find my axle serial number for my front axle. It's a 2006 TD5 90. It's certainly not stamped in the place where the factory manual says it's stamped. Cleaning reveals it's smooth as a baby's bum and still has some of the original factory paint, but no serial number.

Did Land Rover ever use any other locations to put the axle numbers, does anyone know? Or has someone palmed me off with Britpart axles?

britpart axles ?if its had a new case in its life it wont have a number most likely, where have you looked for it

Ah James, there you are.

This is where the manual says:

And it's certainly not there. Googling on here and elsewhere on the web, I see people have said 'on top', 'on the back' 'on the diff casing' etc. but can't seem to see anything there either.

Any ideas?

usually near the seam on the front lhs but thats going by most axles ,every now and then they change stuff ie when manufacture is resourced, what are you after

Well, while I've got you, what I want the information for is that I'm intending to do some work on my swivels in the near future and some of the parts seem to differ depending on the axle number. The retainer that holds the seals in is either FRC4142 or 571755. Given your encyclopaedic knowledge of part numbers, what am I most likely to have d'you think?
