Getting a few bits sorted on my DSE, new map sensor and power is now way up and doesent slow on inclines now.
Anyone know how the avg speed is derived on the display? been drivin my dse now for a couple of weeks on a 20 mile daily round trip, the avg speed only shows 12 -13 mph, speedo on car seems correct when checked with a gps .
my journey is about 2 miles town driving and 8 open road at 50 - 60 mph.

The avg speed seems way off , is it driven by a different sensor ? thanks.

average speed is distance traveled / time taken. if you are stuck at lights or in heavy traffic, it will always be low. every car manufacturer in the world is the same. and also, if the engine is running but not moving, that counts as well. dont worry about. mine is at 8 - 10 for around town

It is a rather weird figure that you've got to get your head round. I've done a trip to Scotland, sitting at about 75 on the cruise control. The average speed showed that I had done just over 50mph. Of course what had happened was that I got stuck in traffic in Birmingham and SWMBO wanted two stops for tea. Once you're stopped you never seem to make that time up again, so 12mph in stop start traffic is probably about right.

No traffic over here and no short runs, even so the average speed is rarely over 24mph unless I'm heading to the UK on the autoroute and re-set at the start of the trip.

Seems about right so for a Rangie , when I do the same journey in my a4 I get an avg speed of 40 - 45 mph for exactly the same journey , i know the dse is slow but its not that slow.

Easily checked. Time yourself. How many miles the journey a - b. How long it takes from a-b.

You only need miles and time. If its a 30 mile journey and it takes you 60 mins from the moment you turn the key on to when you arrive/turn key off, then average mph is 30mph even if for some of the journey your doing 70mph. If its 30 mile journey and its taking 2 hrs then average mph is 15mph. Simples. When I lived in London I'd be lucky to get average of 7mph. In Hastings its more like 20mph. Just depends where you are driving; sat in traffic/actually moving.
