Hello everybody !
I have been experiencing some anomalous behaviour of the automatic gearbox of my freelander 2 SD4 - purchased four months ago with 75000 miles.
From stationary e.g. at a red traffic light, sometimes when releasing the break pedal the car remains blocked for like a second then it makes a jump forward instead of starting moving smoothly.
This seems to happen only when I stop frequently and with car warmed up, for instance when I am stuck in traffic.
Any idea ?
Thank you all !

Have you tried using the gears to slow down, is it the brakes getting hot and locking on for a second. Otherwise I have read that it is advisable to renew the gearbox oil more frequently than the recommended 150k miles. Saying that I had my 2010/11 for the past 18 months with no problems and have done over 150,000 kilometers on it (touch wood) with out the automatic gearbox(vhs) playing up. Have you checked for leaks etc. Obvious questions but the Freelander 2 is known to have problems with the VHS if not kept in tiptop condition.

I too have thought about one of the brakes remaining locked, but last time when this occurred (as I mentioned, while stuck in traffic) I switched to the manual/sport gear and it disappeared - which would exclude this hypothesis.
I had the car checked (very quick visual check and with diagnostic software) - they found no faults so I presume there are no leaks (am I wrong?).
I could think of something related to the software - at service they told me that an update could solve the issue although I am not fully convinced. Should I try that ?
Thanks for your help and for the hint of renewing the oil before the 150k miles, perhaps I should do that too.
Anything else I should be thinking of ?

To test brakes sticking... Park on a slight hill. Put auto int neutral. Release brake. If it doesn't release the brakes straight away yer should feel it stick then roll forward. Keep the engine running when yer doing this.

Personally I've always been told not to sit with your foot on the brake and the auto left in drive for too long like when sat at traffic lights...

I purchased the car in January 2019 and I do not know when the last update was done. Would you recommend to do that ?

I have exactly the same issue. Have you made any progress in fixing it?

Change FL2 auto gearbox oil every 60k miles.

Eggsperianced Freelander 2 owners have started to change every 50k miles instead, as they have noticed a small chance of issues happening just before 60k miles, sometimes.

The change procedure is a partial change. There is a specific way to do it. Only put in the correct spec oil that meet the LR spec and don't use cheap stuff from blag sources like ebay. Buy known brands from propper shops, or propper oil sellers online.
