auto gearbox

hi all and happy new year .I seem to have a problem with my gearbox on a 2.5 diesel 1998 .The dipstick keeps poping up out of the tube no oil loss presume it got a blocked breather if so how do i clean it and where do i find it .also it seems to drop into top gear then back to top momenterly like a quick stutter .do you recon an oil and filter change might sort it our is it more serious .whats your thoughts on this any one else had it

I could be wrong, but I don't know af any breather on the box!

Check your oil level - remember it is done COLD, engine idling in NEUTRAL after going from P to R to D to 3,2 & 1 then in to N before you check the level....

ok thanks just thought there was a breather of sorts on it .but will check as you have stated in the morning thanks

Opps I was wrong, there is a breather...as attached....not sure where it goes though....

Well spotted saint also does your dip stick have a oring , is it a nice snug fit or does it just fall in , sorry I got the plug type later model just a thought .

Oil and filter change every 24K miles is recommended.
