I have an oil leak coming from the gearbox /transmission area. I put in some Wynns stop leak about 1 year ago and i have had no problems since up until now.

The leak seems to be coming from the top of the box, roughly the area where the oil cooler pipe is, the leak is out of sight so its a bugger to try and locate. I also noticed oil dripping down the tranny box also from the top, although probably it could be the same leak!

I've managed to get a spanner on the oil cooler pipes to ensure that they are tight and all the other nuts and plugs etc in the vicinity.
(I am wondering is there any known suspect places where the oil could be leaking from? gaskets, seals, pipes etc!!)

I have noticed that there is an access panel where the gear selector is located although I'm unsure, it certainly looks like one! Can this be removed from in the cab???? If so it would certainly give me a good view of the top of the box!

My plan is to take the box out at some time in the very near future for inspection but i am a bit pushed for time with work commitments at the moment! I have given the box another top up with oil & some stop leak for the moment.

I'm just thinking while I type this I should get one of these dentist mirrors and have another look with a torch, I'll try that over the weekend.

Really need to get this leak sorted!! Don't want to risk a gearbox failure.
From experience I know an auto box on the TD5 runs like **** unless it's totally topped up.

Cheers guys!!

theres no hatch , theres is cooler pipes and unions that they fit on to thats what id look at ,,drop box down on a jack whilst still attached to engine and check unions

Cheers James i will disconnect that top oil cooler pipe then reattach with a bit of ptfe tape, that may sound a bit rough but would do the trick, I will see if it makes a difference, is there an o-ring at the seat here???

When you say drop down the box, is it only a case of removing the prop & the gearbox mounts then lowering the box on a jack to give me enough access to see the top of the box??? How big a job is it? Timescale wise?
Cheers
