S reg range rover vogue was driving ok after it was parked for a while the engine will start in park and neutral. there is no drive and when moving gear change from drive to park it grinds. when the ignition is switched on a warning that transfer box is in neutral.
any ideas

Hi

Have you tried moving the transfer lever about a touch ? My SE Vogue will kick itself out of high on occasions

Also has the fluid in the transfer box been ever changed ? as this may cause the grinding although it's normally that the gears are in motion before you get grinding noises oh have the props been seperated lately ?

Have you tried fitting the fuse in to see if the transfer box motor moves you should hear it clunk and it will say transferbox in nuetral the fuse goes in under the drivers seat when you take the fuse out should go back to high,or try moving gearstick across into low range seeif it will change? what happens. tiga

Tigapiglet,
You mention to fit in a fuse, to see if the transfer box clunks etc, which fuse are you referring to. Also, any ideas as to a good place to get a replacement motor. I have spoken to the local LR dealer and they have told me you cannot buy just the motor, you have to get a new transfer box, which I don't fancy really!
Thanks
Phil

Hi phil thats absolute bollderdash you can get the motors without transfer box i know i have fitted enough from memory about £140-180 only 4 bolts in all to fit,the fuse i mention is under the drivers seat i believe its fuse 11 but only going from memory, 5 amp will do it,if you have trouble getting a motor give me a shout but you need to check out rest off circuit first especially wires to transfer box ecu located under passenger seat hope this helps tiga.
