Auto gearbox issue - 2003 discovery 2 TD5 GS7

Hi Folks
Massive gearbox problems with my Disco 2 TD5 GS7 Auto - 2003

This happened November 2015. A mate recovered it for me and I stuck it in the shed where it's lay. Gotta get it going though so eventually getting around to ask for help!

Had gearbox duly reconditioned about 2 years before it broke down in November 2015. Had new torque converter, the works. Cost me just under £2k if I remember rightly.

Anyway, I've uploaded a video so as you can hear the noise it makes. It will move itself under its own power but just. Had to try it to move it slightly in the shed.

Has anyone got any ideas as to what's wrong with it?

Help greatly appreciated from the landline knowledge base family.

you shouldnt bung it straight in p with t /box in neutral ,you will snap the park ring off,
since its ok in neutral it could be a t/box issue ,i drop t/box sump plate off then come back if its ok

Didn't know that would damage the parking ring but makes perfect sense now you've said it.

I'll get the t-box sump of next weekend when I'm home and have a look and let you know what I find.

Ideal. The longer checklist of things I've got the better when I look at it.

drain some g/box oil out and see if its black

Will do. Gonna be gutted if it is the main box. Kind of expected more the two years out of a full recon!

John,do exactly what JM says,what he does not know about all things L R,is not worth knowing.

Experiencing the exact same thing, was there an outcome to this? Cheers dan
