:confused:Hi all, I have posted details of my auto gearbox failure other week but had no reply, not sure if it went live or not, so will post another ask on here.
My W reg 1999/2000 P38 with 2.5 BMW engine auto box, gave what sounded like a dull thud and lost all gears except 1st and reverse, tried low range but was the same, 1st and reverse only, has anyone had this problem before and could anyone suggest a possible cause, I have checked oil level, that's ok but looked like dark streaks in red oil, help would be appreciated as I seem to be plagued with other trouble as well on this mark. Thanks for any help.

You need to post in the Range Rover section.
1st & Reverse are selected mechanically, the rest of the gears are selected electronically, so could be an electrical problem. Do you get the gear positions shown on the message centre? Have you checked fuses?
Dark streaks in the oil does make it sound mechanical, but you never know.

Cheers Datatek for reply, have not checked any electrics but will do now I know it might be that, did not notice any gear selection on dash read out but will look next time I'm home, will update next week, thanks again.
