Hi

one of the unions between the rubber and metal parts of the pipe that runs from the auto gearbox to the cooling unit has seperated - and with a bit of easing has gone back on with no damage.

it seems to be pretty secure but i'm not sure of the pressure it'll be under, so if its going to just blow straight off or be be happy left as it is.

it can't be just pulled of without a bit of effort put in, but does move and will turn.

any ideas?

If were mine I'd not be driving it, get a new one or take pipe to hydraulics shop have them swage a new hose on for ya.

i know - big risk. especially with a 200 mile journey between me and my bed...

i've put it back together and just come back from a 10 mile test drive and nothing going on with it... so will take the risk - A roads all the way :)

new part will be put on at the next wekk to make sure though...

Do not risk it . You wil not know it has come off untill you have lost approx 5 litrs of oil and then you will lose power and start to damage the gear box.

If for some reason you are forced to risk it and it is a big risk take some extra precautions . Degrease the joint and wrap very well along length with Duck tape . Take extra oil etc , possiblly try Jubilee clips for extra " clamping power " . I hope you are in the AA or Green Flag etc you might need them . Regards Jonathan

Last week while I was in ngland my autobox oilpipe came undone on the M1, emptying all the oil out and losing all drive.

If you do decide to risk it, make sure you have some Dexron III oil with you and a 1ltr bottle to get it in.

If it goes, you will need to be lifted - not towed - to get you home.

guys

bog thanks for the advise - unfortunalty i didn't have a choice so had to risk it... RAC newly purchased :)

what i did do was take the A1 - Parking bays every mile or so, and also i could drive at any speed with the only challenge of ****ing off the sunday evening lorry drivers.

with driving at 40mph, and stopping every 5 miles - yes 5 miles - (for a 200 mile trip that was a lot) i made it. WOOP

Took plenty of Dextron 3 and the best way to get it in i've found - a lucazade sport bottle...

the pipe did start to move at about 50mph, so just sat there really upsetting the weekenders getting home to their penthouses.

Any suggestions how to get the part - the problem arose as the part i thought was the right one - wasn't - with it being 300 miles away there wasn't a chance to check it -

Just replace BOTH pipes about £50 a side............... this a common failure point, and it WILL let you down if you dont fix it.
