that icarsoft unit is everything but not for a D2 IMO...and the erratic fault codes are the evidence.... with unplugged valves a proper tool should see o/c on all 3 valves that's a fact....that obd2 protocol doesnt even makes the difference between o/c and s/c to ground, i'd not rely on that
Ok, thanks. I've tested all the loom and also tested the signals from the ecu and that is all correct. Will see if I can track down another valve pack and replace it. Thanks for your help.

Right, she has been at the Auto transmission specialist for a week now and tbh even they aren't 100% sure what the problem is!
They are saying the only fault they can find is that the torque converter isn't locking up. The electronic side is working but mechanically it isn't.
Firstly, would this cause the car to go into limp mode even when I haven't been going fast enough for the torque converter to need to lock up?
Secondly, I can't see why it would get stuck in first gear when I pull away?
It's all getting extremely frustrating now and I'm at the point that I want to just get rid of it.

Too bad that a ''specialist'' can't tell 100% what the fault is, and as long as the M+S warnings are flashing and a fault code is logged it means that the electronic side can't work well, for mechanical issues there is the so called "stall test" did they do that?...if they dont know what that is find some real specialist

Hi all,

My disco has been going into limp mode on and off now for around a year. I've had a couple of diagnostic checks but as usual they aren't conclusive. The last one said something about a solenoid2 problem. The battery and gearbox oil level was fine so I've been back to square one again!

However, now I've got a new problem and am wondering if it's connected?
Basically she is getting "stuck" in gear. I will stop at say a junction but when I pull off it seems to be in third gear ( not in limp mode though ) but as I start to move it jumps into first gear then carries on through the gears as normal. It also does the same if I go from reverse to drive. Again this isn't all the time but it's getting very regular!
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated?
mine has a similar fault intermittently ,it seems to be diver demand issue

IMO a driver demand(throttle pot circuit) fault should trigger specific fault codes in both engine and transmission ECUs though without any technical backup in reality low fuel pressure can initiate driver demand fault code too but not as a rule only in some strange(unknown by me) conditions

Then that's the problem, the symptom is described and seems close to what you have:
P0758
(9, 27)
* Shift solenoid (MV 2),
open or short circuit:
Limp home mode in low and high ranges. Shift
pressure to maximum, harsh gear shifts/
engagement

this was explained at the beginning of this thread....

Sorry but I can only go by what the so called experts say. I trust and respect your opinion more than any "specialist" but unfortunately I don't have access to you:D
If I do the stall test and it proves the torque converter is actually working can you say with confidence that the problem is the valve?
Once again thanks for your much appreciated help;)

P.S. The way you have explained it above is spot on to my symptoms and is the first time it's been written in a clear way.:)

I cannot say anything with confidence when it comes to a D2 :) ... though i would have expected some specialists to do that, about my interventions is written in my sugnature ;)

do the stall test and we'll see

Right!
Just got her back. She drove home(30 miles) faultlessly. Four times I hit the 51-52 mph zone and every time I had a slight dip in revs as the torque converter kicked in! As soon as I got home I done the stall test as you suggested and got to 2950 rpm.
The only positive thing the "experts" done was realign my xyz switch!

So you have your answer: clutch slip, James Martin or somebody else should know better what's to be done cos i'm dumb with mechanics, maybe a replacemet box?, if you decide that here's an ultra reliable guy:

No, that limp mode is caused by the issue which triggered the fault code, solenoid or wiring...i reedited my previous message too

Once again, thanks!
Yes I've been to him recently when my problems started. He ruled out the loom and xyz switch as being the problem.

Quick update!
I finally got the courage to attempt to replace the valve myself! It wasn't as bad or as scary as I thought it would be.
It was much easier than getting the starter or the xyz switch off!
The upshot is, I now have a working Landy again (for the time being anyway).
£200 for a solenoid valve an inch long! But realistically, a cheap fix.
Thanks for your help, patience and perseverance with me. Until the next time, bye for now.
