Hello,

I have a question for the experienced Defender driver ....
I am currently driving a Discovery of 2001, but my dream is and remains Defender 110 Country.

Now I have a question, and which motor would you recommend, the TD5, 200TDI or 300 TDI. Which is low maintenance.
I pull a trailer of 2100 KG and a caravan with 1300 KG.

I thank you
Martin

No land rover is low maintenance. So it depends on your skill level with engine diagnostics and how much easy tune-ability you require.
I have a 200tdi in standard tune with a full width intercooler. It is very very simple to maintain and still pulls well despite the 280k on the clock. Even with a discovery transfer box I am happy towing (although only and handful of times a year) a loaded twin axle car trailer.

However if you are happy with the additional maintenance and electrical diagnostics the TD5 has more power and can very simply be remapped for even more. If you tow day in day out this is possibly going to be a better bet although not necessarily any more reliable.
I assume your current disco is a TD5 based on the year so if you are happy with the engine in that the one in a 110 will be the same.
