I have the guage as well so really I am thinking it has to be one of the £5 ones :D

are intermotor parts any good??

only item I ever had a problem with was an ignition coil from them years ago, used to use there stuff in my Rally Imp, there contact breakers did not bouce at all even though the engine revved to 11500!

Using an intermotor coil on the white one Fett. No problems since fitting it, and that was after the trouble at christmas. Used the odd bit of theirs over the years. No hassles yet.

My local factor supplies intermotor. Have had a prob with condensor wires sticking through the insulation but points etc generally ok. (Thats for the old Minis though). I tend to prefer Unipart bits when possible - slightly dearer but better 'feel'. You'll find the OEM stuff will no doubt be made by someone who allows their product to be rebranded e.g. Volvo platinum plugs - £60 for my T5R or £18 for Champions for the set. The Volvo ones had 'Champion' engraved on the body and a quaint Volvo transfer on the ceramic!

Cheap crap, just like commercial ignition stuff.Better to go OEM.

intermotor are oe equivalent on most of their range and are far from cheap and have been manufacturing ignition products for 40 years and have the largest range of anyone i have dealt with ....

unipart buy in the cheapest stock and have it re-boxed and re branded by the manufacturer, we quite often get their stock delivered to us by mistake, often its from companies we don't touch due to quality issues

Its still cheap crap, most electrical parts for the vehicles we discuss on here are crap - compared to the quality of what was first used.
Intermotor might be "OE" equivalent - but its still crap.Even Lucas and Bosch branded stuff is not always decent quality.

they are fine for your application..lucas should cost no more than a tenner though..go find lucas dealer..

well I got it and fitted it today. the oil light still flickers when very hot at idle even though the gauge is showing 25lbs. I think this is now because the tickover is too low as the alt light flickers too.

I reckon its probably idling at 250 rpm or less so gonna have to look at that me thinks

yes 250rpm too low...

i would check your oil gauge..seems abit optimistic to me if oil light is on..

From memory, the old V8 owners manual states that it is normal for the oil pressure light to flicker when hot and at idle. Obviously with such a long crank and number of journals, this makes sense. Added to this is the old gear type oil pump which was superceded on the P38. That said, new oil pump gears are cheap enough. The idle speed is too low though.
