Disco 2 Are BCUs the same for manual and automatic Discovery 2 models?

I'm here in Zambia with a BCU problem. I brought a secondhand BCU back from the UK with me and the local mechanic is telling me that the one I brought is for a manual vehicle and mine is automatic.

Is this right? I've done a bit a research online and can't see any mention of different BCUs for automatic and manual models.

PS: My vehicle is a 2003/4 Discovery 2 Td5 automatic

Short answer to your question is YES... The BCU is "unique" and it's 100% programmable for all the acceptor vehicle's engine/equipment but a dedicated diagnostic tool which has all the programming capabilities is needed, no way to make it work with generic testers.

Thanks very much. This is what I thought. I have a Nanocom device here so we should be good to go! Maybe I need a different mechanic!

Yes, with nanocom you should be able to make it work provided you know what tou are doing
