so who can find me something actually original on it!!!

Dear areyouok0075,

Hi
interested in this vehicle but thinking from a
legal perspective, is there anything on the
vehicle which warrants it keeping its tax exempt
status as there appears to be nothing on it from
the original 1966 88" car?

thanks

does this make it legal ? if so my 1989 2.5TD 90 defender is really a 1971 series :)

N reg isn't tax exempt...
Is he an idiot?

And why take the wheelbase to 90 inches if you're gonna put 90 bodywork on it?

This kind of thing keeps cropping up on ebay. None of the ones I've seen are legally tax exempt.

Any such mods are supposed to be notified to the DVLA. You are only allowed a few very minor modifications to keep the original identity (and tax exempt status) and they usually insist on an inspection to verify that enough of the original vehicle has been retained. Presumably the tax exempt status is based on the Series 2a part, but since the chassis is a RR (and modified as well), then this would automatically remove this identity and tax exampt status.

I would have thought it would be quite hard to get an MOT on this given that the chassis number can't possibly match that on the V5 unless the plate has been illegally moved/changed.

Rules for retension of original ident:-
Original, unmodified chassis - not got - he admits it came from a rangie, and was cut down, which DEMANDS at the least SVA for structural integrity as a Radically altered Vehicle.
And with the Rangie Chassis, registration would be on the RANGIE VIN number NOT the long lost SI's!
Its a ringer, and an applicant for the HMC&E crusher truck!

Ebay probably won't understand the issue so won't care.

C&E might be interested though. Is it worth the bother though? There seem to be loads of similar listings all the time and tbh I do sympathise with them - it's misleading potential buyers that I don't agree with though.

I'll let you, I dont have a flea-bay account.
Happens a lot, and if you tell E-bay admin, they can get the ad pulled; C&E will stick it on a pile of outstanding, which will probably mean the poor mug that buys the thing gets stung, not the rip off merchant selling.
BUT, you could drop a note to the local Trading standards.... depending on where the seller is, they tend to be a bit more pro-active.
