Help! got a 200TDI in a 90 which runs well but the performance is poor. Struggle to get 55 mph which is pretty tedious on dual carriageway etc. If anyone has the kit and knowledge can you help?
I posted about this a few days ago and had lots of useful suggestions but I can't do any of these things.

Tdi doesn't have diagnostics, there isn't any electronics on it. Why not try setting the tappets and changing the filters, as was suggested in the other thread. Anyone can do that with a few basic tools, If not, a garage will only charge a few hours labour to do it.

There seems to be some confusion about whether the issue is gearing or power.

If you want to bring it down to Stroud I'm happy to give you an opinion and help you do a basic service but I can't get to you atm.

Ok no computer diagnostic but surely when a mechnic inspects a vehicle for a fault then he is diagnosing!

That would be great, I am in Ross on Wye so not far. I could make a Monday, Wednesday or Sunday, what would suit you? Oh what's your hourly rate?

True, but 'diagnostic/tuning' is a generic term used to describe finding faults with the ECU in modern vehicles. A mechanic can't really do this without plugging in a digital fault finder or laptop with relevant software. The 200TDi does not have an ECU. A blue beasty is probably just as good as plugging in a fault finder :) (before the beer though) ;)

Try a Boost pin from Timber Trail. Small job, great results.

Making sure that the engine is performing as well as it can ...
The brakes are not 'rubbing' making it drag ...same with the wheel bearings and state of tyres
A good service, an experienced eye on the resultant findings ... state of the oils ... amount of smoke, (colour etc) ... gear change feel ...
