as above, just need to know if any difference between them..cos cant get abs swivel balls for mine as 6 bolt type...wondering you see if abs type have same size upper swivel hole diameter as non abs..if no difference then i can use my 6 bolt type..if difference then i need to think out of the box.....cos obviously wont be able to bolt 7 bolt abs balls to my 6 bolt axle...

abs swivel is same as defender 90/110 to 94 which only came in 7 bolt version ,abs pin seat replaced rialko bush ,and as cv has abs ring on it you can only use later hubs ,stub axles etc

so am i reading this correct as.....

the swivel ball itself is the same on non abs and abs fitted vehicles..just the upper "pin/swivel" actually changes...thus allowing me to still use my 1970-85 6 bolt swivel ball, but fit abs upper swivel/bush etc...

my problem is i have 6 bolt axle that i have to keep (to keep originality dvla/vosa points) and that never came with abs.

if the non abs and abs swivel ball are the same (on 7 bolt axles) then i have an easy cheap job.(as the only difference between my 6 bolt ball and 7 bolt ball is the bolt holes.and i can just change the hubs/cv's etc.)..if not then i have to work out how to fit the abs sensors...

no defender swivel ball had a different hole on top to take rialko bush which also takes abs bush rr and disco and def after 94 use swivel with 2 x brg unless abs when uses earlier def

sorry to be a pain...ok..but the early defender i assume is a 7 bolt fitting to axle?thats a bugger if so, cos i need a 6 bolt ball with abs/rialko bush size hole...or i need to work out a different front abs sensor arrangement,or use complete axle, which i dont want to do..

this info important to me as it decides which axle i go out and buy to use the parts...thank you for being patient with me..

I'm fairly sure the swivel pre-loads are different between abs and non-abs, this has something to do with the differences between the upper swivel bearing and a railko bush. Also, I understand the later ABS axle has a needle roller bearing at the top whereas the early ones don't. So whatever you end up doing you'll need to research the correct pre-load.

you wont like this...i do..you wont...

worked out how to do it even if swivel balls are non compatable...think i found some nice late lse axles..i hope they 24 spline?..but anyway they 7 bolt hole balls,my axle 6...soooooooo...take my balls hubs off, so as to leaving just the axle 6 bolt hole flange staring at me ...

then take swivel balls off later axle, but marking exact position in relation to something common to both axles..say upper and lower swivels.w.h.y....

then ..wait for it...(you wont like it..but it will be fine..believe me..)
get out works proper mig and weld up my axle bolt holes (assuming none line up with 7 bolt balls)..then face off to make sure flat and even..do this by hand even..enginers blue, various files...(like being back an apprentise again.lol..)

then..(can you guess??) align 7 hole ball up,redrill axle for 7 ball swivel...job done...bolt on complete lse stubs...so easy...one evenings work..(assuming i already built up stub axles)

i told you not like...but hey it will work, only thing is heat warpage..but i can stop any heat warpage of flange.(got large copper clamps just for this..)
