Anyone able to point me in the right direction with some of these

  1. Often when selecting 1st when stationary, it jerks forwards ever so slightly. Doesn't seem to move, but you can feel it. Could the clutch not be disengaging properly.
  2. Clunk when depressing the clutch in 2nd and 3rd and sometimes 1st. Problem seems to come and go.
  3. How do I check the rear axle ball joing because there's a clonking coming from the rear axle when moving of forwards or backwards, or moving around in 1st with the Td5's stupid jerky throttle response.
  4. Slight clunk when applying the brakes - Quite possibly UJ's which i'm going to change soon due to vibrations on the overrun.
  5. Whenever it rains hard passenger footwell get's soaked, looks like it's dripping out below the speaker. Where might the water be getting in. (Haven't got a sunroof)
Other than that lot, everything seems fine. I'm sure there'll be more, thanks for any help.

Probably.

Probably linked, or it could be low fluid in the gearbox just amplifying the noises that are there anyway.

A big crowbar, try to lever it about. Then, get someone to rock the car back and forwards, while you lie underneath it and see if the ball joint appears to 'clonk'.

Probably UJ's, or one of the other bushes around the axles, like shock bushes, radius arms, check them all as above.

Welcome to LR ownership! It is probably coming in through the door shuts. Google Defender Water Ingress, there is a good LR workshop manual that shows how to keep water out of the whole car.

1 possibly clutch slave cylinder letting by check by keeping foot on clutch pedal and seeing if vehicle creeps forward

2 sounds like ball joint on upper link

3 keeps footwell dust free:)

i rekon ya get ur UJ's changed then see what clunks have come or gone.
I have clonks in my 300tdi, one was the clutch cylinders (replaced both while he was at it), another was the uj, had it replaced problem solved, and another was gear backlash, havin that sorted at the mo. hopefully when I get it back it'l be clunk FREEEEEEEEE!just in time for it to fail its m.o.t.

As fer yer leak check that the drain valvey thing on the bottom of the heater intake plastic thing int blocked. Then check the windscreen seals. If yer dont sort it you'll be welding the bulkhead up at some point.

put the hand brake on then rock the vehicle from the back , keep an eye on the ball joint on the a frame.
get underneath it with no brake on and in nooteral (best not to park on a hill when doing this) and give the uj's a good play with, also the propshaft sliding joints.

the first gear thing is a draging clutch , does it crunch going into reverse?
is there clutch fluid in it?

buy a grease gun and grease things every now and then , they wear out real quick if you dont.

Thanks for the replies,

Doesn't creep forward. Don't know what's normal for the clutch on a Td5 cause I haven't driven another, but clutch bites quite far up it's travel. While driving, you only have to press it less than an inch to make it slip. Is this normal???

When ye're sittin' with the engine off, does it clunk a bit when ye push and release the clutch pedal?

Nope, nothing when you do that.

I've got use of a ramp in a few weeks so I'll give everything a check over.
