Hi All !

this is my second TD4 and the 2001 used to fire up as normal, but my 2003 when cold seems to not want to start straight away.

i.e it does not struggle to start as in lazy or battery low etc.. it turns over at the correct speed just does not seem to "catch" as quickly as the 2001

left it for a few days without driving it and it took quite a while to start, it seems to do this when cold , when warm starts fine.

it always starts from the first turn of the key just that for that split second you think "ey up this is not going to start" ?

is this just because its another TD4 ? or should they all start the same ?

its had a service and the battery checks out OK ! and as i say its not slow at turning just takes longer to catch

just would like some comments as too whether this is OK or something needs to be done ?

May be I'm being a bit thick. Are you saying:
You turn (and hold) the key and there is a pause before the stater starts to turn, and the engine fires.
or:
You turn the key, the started spins, but the engine doesn't fire straight away?

Hi,

yes i'm saying the starter turns off the key but it does not fire from cold straight away.

it will start just that instead of a second off the key it may be 3-4 seconds, its noticable and my wife has come home also and told me so its not right ?

The fuel filter has been changed and has made no differance, hence my post on here ?

Is there any smoke emitted from the exhaust while cranking over? If no...It sounds like you may be drawing in a small amount of air allowing the fuel vacuum lo be lost. If yes....check your glow plugs. They could be beginning to fail.

nar no smoke !

so i should look for an air leak ? where would you suggest looking ?
