Any pics of a Disco with a Rangie Roof??

As per subject. Anyone got any pics of a Disco 1 with a Rangie roof?

Just a brain fart at the minute but the idea is of changing our roof to a rangie classic???? roof (without sunroof)
 
Is that because of the leaking sunroof problems?

weld a sheet of metal?
or get a 200tdi roof, mine doesnt have sunroof... :)

Why not ; )

A flat roof, a bit lower, when roof is loaded up the lower profile could be usefull. Just little things really, when going for a day out, could put the waffle boards on the roof and still be lower than we are now. Or keep the same roof rack and have some room underneath it.

Also just seeing what we can do with it really.

Not directly, my rear sunroof is sealed up and the front one doesn't leak so not experiencing probs anymore.

Have thought about removing the rear sunroof and welding a plate in it's place, then I could use that extra room under the raised part at the rear of the roof for a little more storage..???

I have no idea?? Just putting the feelers out at the moment

Also thinking about a swing away spare wheel holder on the back as the back door has started sagging, so would like to sort that and prevent in future, I suppose the weight of the wheel plus 13st of me climbing up and down the ladder on the back isn't helping matters.

oh dear , i just ordered a rear ladder and i am 18 and a half stone ....does this mean my door will break too ? and before ya jump on and kick me for bein a fat bastid , i ain't i'm just big built LOL

Cheers mate, apart from the colour (and half a snorkel) that could be mine). Don't think it looks too bad actually.

WOW, cheers for doing that. I actually really like it. We are looking at doing it so that we can have potentially have a lift and taller tyres for a bit more ground clearance, without the worry of whacking the roof off road. We use the Disco for work as well as fun, so while we're not bothered about nasty scratches and dents, we do need a roof that will be undamaged enough that we can get a roof rack on safely to take the tent and all our kit when we go camping (which we do a lot).

Also, It'll give us somewhere to put the waffle boards as Stretchie has said and will also help us with one of our insane dogs. We could of course just go out and buy a rangie classic, but Stretchie has already built a false floor in the disco, so don't want to have to start over again.

It's really growing on me........time to see if we can make it work I think!!!
 
OK, then next question, HOW do you remove the roof.

Is it just the roof part above the windows? or is the roof and the 'legs' that support it that go down to where the tops of the doors are?
 
Before you start chopping have you thought about the safety side of things in the event of a rollover? Usually when fitting replacement pillars you would chop through both the new and old pillar at the same time to ensure exact fittingand uniform strength. That could cause problems when changing both roof and pillar types.
 
stretchie, also note that what was done on that photoshop (which well done btw) is that the windows and roof and off a rangie...or it so it looks like

with the actual windows of a disco it might look different?

No probs. It might be worth parking your disco alongside a rangie so you can compare pillars and compatability issues. Don't forget to compare widths aswell as wether the pillars line up lengthwise.

As long as the pillars are pretty similar you may be able to chop your roof off at the top of the pillars and chop a rangie roof off at the bottom of the pillars. This will give you the excess needed to tack the 2 pillars overlapping each other and then get the cut right. If the pillars are nothing like the same you may have to scrap or rethink the idea.
