Help req. by new member....please! Just bought a 110 v8 & it drives like a dog...i'm told it takes a couple of weeks to get used to the "Landrover experience"...but me thinks this one (1988) might need major surgery...!

Anyone from this area who might be able to give me an informed opinion...I'm not expecting a 22 year old Landy to be like a modern 4x4..but this one's....a...white knuckle ride..:(

Great site by the way....any help appreciated.

Hi there,

The brakes seem...non too efficient..but that might just be me not used to hauling to a stop 2 1/2 tons..?

For a v8 it struggles uphills..its done 90K & I have no service history..!

Lots of "slop" (clonk) after engaging gear whilst on the move..

Oil leak(s)...but i'm told they all have those..!

Good points...solid all around as waxoiled from new...er..thats it.

Hi there,

The brakes seem...non too efficient..but that might just be me not used to hauling to a stop 2 1/2 tons..? Sounds normal providing they're not spongy and it pulls up straight

For a v8 it struggles uphills..its done 90K & I have no service history..!Try changing the fuel filter and getting the carbs balanced

Lots of "slop" (clonk) after engaging gear whilst on the move..Probably had a hard life and got some play in the transfer box output flanges.

Oil leak(s)...but i'm told they all have those..!Where from?

Good points...solid all around as waxoiled from new...er..thats it.

If you're not happy with the way it drives, why did you buy it?

Bought on a whim..(always wanted one)...off the Bay..didn't drive it..as it was delivered...yes very risky I know, but it was a fair price..but now I have it I want too keep it as it's body/chasis is sound.

Thought this would be the best place to get friendly impartial advice & maybe even get a local landy owner to offer their opinion & recommend local l mechanic...thats how it is Ratty..thanks for your advice.

I'm a Landy "virgin" & asking for help...
