Well iv had my freeby nearly 12 months now and so far im happy with her, apart from a few niggly noises that have crept up and i cant put my finger on.

1 - get a rattle kind of metalic at 2500rpm, and gear more noticable at lower speeds de to road noise at higher speeds.

2 - rear brake (passenger) constantly squeels stops when brake applied, tried backing of both handbrake and pads to no avail, i took grinder to the "lip" on the drum and edge of shoes which helped - for about 4 miles.

3 - god damn awful knock, usually over little bums not necc speedbumpes etc, sounds to be coming from the front but sound travels so i may be wrong...i thought it was the front drivers engine mount as when i had metal mount off the rubber that screws into chassis was loose, and i cant get it to tighten, but still not convinced.

so wondering if anbody leed/wakefield/harrogate way would mind casting their thoughs and ideas.

shes a 2003 1.8 3 door kalahair model with approx 80k, had new vcu, new vcu bearings, new timing belt.

Out of interest did you do the timing belt yourself, my wife's freeby probably needs one quite desperately!

The knocking's not radius arm bushes? Again got the same problem on the wife's.

I've got the exact same brake issue it's in now so I'll let you know today/tom what it was with mine it was Sq Sq Sq now the Rears have been designed lipped and roughed up, and adjusted it's now a faint metal ish squeak that's constant so deffo rear of motor, my fro to had also been ruling on the shield which has now been removed..

Cheers for that..yes timing belt was fone by me iv done a few different cars though so was pretty confident there's 2 types of water pump if your changing that too.. (my cause for doing it)..

you should never grind the lip on the hub down it is a sign they are worn just replace them, it can be your shoes are nearly worn out to ,do not take chances you only have one life. the knocking on the front could be either drop link or wishbone .

yes just try it with a bar when they start knocking it is usually the big rubber on the back but they are cheap enough to replace the whole thing but make sure it is first.
