L322 Anyone want to watch an L322 burn?

It was a snapped crank after all. I sold it to Pinewood Studios for use in the latest James Bond film, but that was delayed and it was blown up in the last Fast and Furious instead. The mechanics at the special effects place removed the engine to fit the pyrotechnics and they sent me a pic of the crank snapped in half. If I can find it when I get back home I'll post the pic.

I loved that car, but she broke me. Don't tell the wife, but I'll deffo get another one :)

Saying that, it was cathartic to watch her get destroyed on an IMAX screen, even if it was only a few seconds on screen at most.

Snapped crank? Thought it was a v8? The BMW one?

Still, went in style. Same thing happened to my mate's Disco and he wanted that sort of ending for his, although the new guy reckons he can fix it.

Well if there that s*** why are there so many E62 engines in RR and X5,s showing well over 150k and still going strong. Mine has 130k and apart from a sticky lifter at times it sounds like a swiss watch. Confess that the XYZ switch is a pain in the arse but otherwise its great and on LPG.

It is stupendously rare for an M62 crank to snap, which is why I was so dumbfounded when this one did.....

I mean, do a search for M62 snapped crankshaft and there are like zero results....snapped crank bolts, a few, snapped timing chains....a few more, even snapped cams show a few results (they are hollow)....but snapped cranks rarer than virgin in Essex carrying around a pouch of hens teeth and has just cleaned up all her rocking horse poo.

SO WHAT YOUR SAYING SAINT IS "IT AINT THAT COMMON" :D:D
thing is there are a hell of a lot of people going on about the E62 motor but look at the newer Jag motors and now the big issues are starting to show on them and cranks are on the list.

The M62 is a great engine, just a little 'highly strung', but a very good unit hence why they are so well used in many applications....even the Ascari A10 used an S62 (a modified M62)....

The AJV8 Jag engine is more robust....

(BTW: 'E' and 'F' are BMW Model Codes...'S', 'N' & 'M' are the engine codes :D)

M62

And my experience of doing 3 of them this year gone, shows they're not a quality item..

I think all Range Rover owners will sympathise with your plight. They really are a labour of love and extremely expensive to maintain. Might be worth taking it over to RCV in East Peckham and get them to give it the once over before you decide to ditch it.

The Jimny is a good car as long as it gets a rust prevention treatment from new.
My mate had one. Replaced rear section of chassis as was rotted out, spent lot of money putting off-road kit on it, then sold at a loss. Was fun little thing, capable off-road as they are very light but no good for towing you out if you get stuck with anything heavier than a plastic bag.
It is obvious when driving they are not a LR, won’t take a clout like a P38

I agree with all of that, my mate used to hammer across farm fields in one, he fitted a raised rail with big lights and a standing position for lamping. Totally reliable despite the abuse.
