I'm a Ham and I want to put HF,VHF and UHF in.
I'm going to have my FT-2800m for 2 meters or possible 2/70 single radio but would have to buy it.

HF is a bit more tricky I've only got a IC-725 which is portable but can't be installed perm, maybe something like a FT-857??

And also CB as I've had one for years but never used it, and my buddie has a Disco also and he doesn't want to take his licence as thats what he does for his job.

What radios do you have in them then??

Mine gets all the music, and some talk shows, oh, and it's got a CD as well

Is the FT7800 the Duel band rig 2/70? I know there is a Quad band version but can't remember which one it is.
And as for the detatchable face is the way forward, and the 857 has this feature also.

And yes I do like a bit of radio 5 live through the FT-857 and a bit of Radio1 first thing going to work.

And the Foundation licence is easy as long as you show safe working with RF and Power you'll be fine

I have 857 installed in my ser2 TD5 (2001) Works fine with spare wheel mounted whips and Atas120 antennas. However, I do get a lot of injector pulse noise on 40m. Higher bands are ok. Tried various ferrites to fix but so far no joy. Almost unusable on 40m with engine running.

How do you find the SWR on the ATAS antenna, I've never used one.
Is this the one where you can tune remotely or do you have to get out the car and use the fly lead?

I take it you have a discovery? In which case it's just a case of a flat bar bent at 90degrees just above the height of the spare wheel. and mounting it is as simple as drilling 2 holes in it and bolting it to the carrier.

Thanks a good idea for mounting it, but then you have a very small groundplane. It has it's comprimises easy of install but better to have it on the top with a bigger ground plane would be better..

It isn't how I'd choose to mount my aerial, but he asked how it's done on a wheel carrier and that's how it's done.
