except for one bloke who decided he would walk in the middle of the lane to stop us passing, he continued to walk a few yards and then stop and turn round and glare at us as if we were the children of satan he continued to do this

Same thing happened to me.
He was,nt a rambler but still a twot.
It was through a shopping centre whilst on business verybody else moved but this on d/head.
I sounded my horn for 3 seconds.
You could see the **** dribbling down his legs:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Ha Ha.. sounds like I have some experiences to come... I have heard some nightmare stories about ramblers booby trapping lanes though. ALSO... being a fair minded sort of bloke I thought I would join the ramblers association to post on their forum in a fair and balanced manner (I love a good argument). They wouldn't let me join... didn't even tell me why. Apparently if you want to post on their forum, they have to vet the post first (which can take days) to make sure you are not contradicting their official propoganda!

The worst i had was a group of us went to remove a concrete block from a v gullied lane (which allegedly the farmer had pushed down the bank to block it). We parked at one end and walked up to look, noting that the 'farmer' had appeared in his truck and then drove away. By the time we had come up with our plan and walked back down loads of quad bikes and pick ups came up the lane with loads of farmer boys armed with shovels and bats. We were told to go or it would kick off!!!!! It was impossible to go because they were now blocking the road. If it wasn't for the fact that a couple of the guys had their young kids with them it would have turned nasty. Basically some other laners had been their that week and had been driving where they shouldn't have been seriously pi$$ing the guy off. to top it off a group of walkers came along and watched the whole thing, it was all quite bizarre and it did put me off laning for a little while.
Over the years i have encountered a lady who clamped her arms around a gate and refused to move, three times had farmers block the road to confront us and two years ago two of us had a couple of farmers chase us, overtook and then slammed their brakes on to stop us and wanted to know where we had been.
All of the above were resolved in the end, even ending up breaking into a friendly chat as we never doing anything wrong. EACH TIME the farmers etc were doing what they did due to other 4x4 drivers days or weeks before either driving where they shouldn't have been or causing damage to property, so to be honest i don't blame them for being annoyed. The problem is once some dick head annoys a farmer we all get tarred with the same brush.
It really is important to ensure you are on legal routes and to behave, people are watching and one idiot can create big problems for all of us nationally.
I have encountered other problems where either ramblers or locals are just being bloody minded and want the ROW to be kept for themselves but that is something we can't do much about.

That's to be expected - they have their roots in communism.

Which part of the country was this?

Cheers,

Maybe we should start protesting there presence on green lanes then. Then again we'd all lose them if that happened.

Main problem seems to be that Chavs are tearing theese places up and making us more responsible folk look bad.

Maybe if we organise something as a forum to promote us in a good light, for example : they argue were destroying the country side and spoiling it for walkers who want to get out into nature. But what about those who cant get out but want too? I'm not thinking fat gits who are too unfit to walk to the corner shop, but those who are disabled.

Also if one of these ramblers falls over and breaks a leg or keels over with a heart attack I bet they'd wanna see a 4x4 then wouldn't they? I can't see an ambulance gettin to em and not all emergency services have off road capabilties, infact there's something called 4x4 response where 4x4 owners register to volunteer there time, Vehicles, off road skills and knowledge to aid the emergency services.

How many ramblers would you wanna see if you were stuck in a flood?

Not had any problems with ramblers (yet), but did give a lift to a couple off a Welsh mountain in December. It was getting dark and cold and it was raining and they needed off there pronto. As I was the only one with space I got volunteered to chauffer em down the hill.

Pretty sure most ramblers appreciate 4x4's under those circumstances eh.

Heh... got to wonder if the 'work' they did was stringing up the prats that give the rest of us a bad name ;)

Been looking at some lanes in north Wales for a trip later in the year, and have seen some of them have been torn up by stables using them for riding lessons....20 HORSES AT A TIME....so now they're unsuitable for 4x4's and horses.... And we get penalised for being in groups of more than about 6 vehicles:eek:
