I know I'm going to get told to do a search but I've done one and still not sure on the best oils to go for.

My landys a 1987 110, used to have a 19j but she's now got a disco 200tdi and I'm pretty sure a disco transfer box... What oils do I need to change the whole lot?

Also where's best to get them from? I've heard smith and Allen are supposed to be good?

Thanks, butch!

Ive used 5/30 semi for years but I change it every 3,000 miles but always with genuine filters.. cant say this is the best but its
worked for me :)

Thanks, I changed the engine oil about 6k ago but I doubt the other oils have been changed for a long time so hoping I should notice a difference! :)

Just trying to find out exactly what to order.

Simply use what is reccomended for that engine.

The Haynes manuals and LR handbooks have clear Reccomendations.
It's best to stick to them, that way, you know you have put the right stuff in.

I've seen loads of threads ( especially on the rover v8 forums ) , complaining that an engine didn't like this fancy new oil that someone used. In every case, the new fancy oil was simply the wrong grade.

Best advice is to use what is reccomended, and change it regularly.

I've been doing this on all my cars, and never had any base engine trouble.

This also applies to gearboxes - with the possible exception where the manufacturers say "filled for life", which is rubbish - the life of the gearbox ( or auto trans) will be longer if the oil (or atf) is changed.

Reccomendations range from 40k miles to 80k miles on an auto trans oil.

A search will reveal loads, 200tdi 15/40 mineral is the kiddy
5/30 is cats ****
