Hi all had my freelander 1.8 53 plate 78k a couple of months now and have been reading up on the vcu,
There's a lot of info about this, I drove home from work the other morning ( I work nights) 16miles, when I got home I felt the vcu and it was cold ,from what I've read it should have been warm at least, I haven't done the wheel up test yet that's at the weekend but should it still be cold after 16 mile drive ,no banging when I reverse either
I'm just wondering if I should be worried that it's not working properly

Dave

Was the road wet if so the spray could have acted as a cooling effect.

No it was dry, I was thinking as its first thing in the morning and a bit cold now that could be it, was just asking as I've not read about anyone's being cold always warm or hot to touch

My VCU would warm up by about 5°C on my 10 mile commute (measured with an infrared thermometer).
I always ran my FL1s with identical tyres (a must), and switched them front to back every 3k miles, to even out the wear.
There will always be a bit of slip across the VCU, which will warm it slightly, but it's not much if the tyres are identical and similar in wear.
