whats the difference between volvo c303 portals and land rover 101 axels in realtion to the size? and will 101 axels fit a series 3 to give a lift?

Heheheh, keep 'em coming. One day you'll hit on a solution that's remotely feasible ... ;)

Have a look at the D-Flex shackles thread for what can be done that doesn't look too stupid on a series, without turning it into a coiler .. ;)

erm well maybe not that big..... d flex shackles looked good, but has anyone got any info on the forward control axels option? would they fit a series 3?

Sit down, have a think of what you want to do, then do some research. At the moment you're shooting **** and seeing if any sticks. Go to some shows see what people have done. TBH if you want lift then the series are pretty limited unless you come up with something radical, for which you'll need some good understanding of the priciples involved if you're ever going to get anywhere.

Have a read of how long it took Gone2Far to get something up and running properly and a feel of what's required for radical suspension ... that works ....

lol its not for the one thas for sale (and anyways im not selling it anymore) will do some research and find out what i can do, its just theres a guy with a forward control down my road and it hasnt gone anywhere or done anythign in about 10 years so im guessin he doesnt want it and was thinkin of buying it off him.

101 axles are Salisbury axles, rare as rocking horse poo as all the 101 owners buy them as soon as they come up, they are hard to get bits for and are not worth it imho, portal axles are a good axle but are expensive and unless you are going rock crawling you wont see the benefit, a locked axle on bigger tyres (900r16 or 36x10.50r16) will fit with a little trimming look on here for spydermans 88"

might take it off him anyway break it fro spares to fund c303 axels?
why wouldnt you get any lift from 101 axels are they too similar to a standard series 3 axel?

the wheel axes and differential axes on regular axles (that is all axles factory fitted to Land-Rovers) are the same. c303s are portal axles which means that the axes of the wheels are a few inches bolow that of the differential. This is achieved by 'drop boxes' on the ends of the axles. You get loads more ground clearance but reduced efficiency due to the extra bearings and gears.

i see, i saw that the ends of the axels dropped down, but at least that means that the axels from a 101 would fit, i may just try and see what happens, if theres no difference ill just take em off again! ill get pics to show everyone haha so you can say "i told you so" :D

I'll tell you the best way to make your Landy taller Hyland: Cut out the centres of all your wheels and then weld them back in 5 inches higher up. Send us a video when you've done it:D

haha not even i would go that far, seriously you can see the difference in the size of the axels and wheels and if they fit then why not, ill do some measurements first before i do anythin drastic, maybe ill be the first one to start a new trend (probably with good reason tbh!) cheers for all advice
