Hello,

Picked up another 2004 L322 4.4 V8 Vogue to make money on. Only paid £2800 for it. Gearbox has been changed, new air bags and compressor.

It starts and drives but has a heavy misfire. Code readers says:

Random Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected,
Cylinder 3 misfire,
Cylinder 4 misfire,

What should I start checking.

It has 200,000 miles on clock so I think maybe HEAD GASKET. But no coolant in oil and no oil in coolant. Oil filler cap is clean with no creamy mayo, no overheating. Haven't drove it to see if it uses water.

Very slight oil in plug wells. I don't think its to the extent that it would cause a misfire.

Forgot to say the engine lights flashes. You can clear codes but misfire stays, then when you rev it for 10 seconds, the engine lights flashes again.

Ok. I will get new plugs tomorow and try swapping the coil packs too. Just read the receipts that came with the car and it shows 50k miles ago the water system was pressurising and to solve that, they threw 3 bottles of steel seal into it.

Do you think this steel seal could have held the engine together for 50k miles? There is no smoke when the car is being driven.

Look at the plugs you take out and see if the ones from the cylinders missfiring look steam cleaned.
Sounds horribly like the engine is fecked:eek:

yep, with that stuff in, it has probably been diagnosed before as a dead engine..
Sh111T..
definitely check plugs....

Sad news :(

Low compression on 2 adjacent cylinders (cylinder 3 and 4) !! What can it be? Valves or Head Gasket?

Plugs are perfect. Coil Packs didn't make a difference when swapped around.

HGF between cylinders if you are lucky. The engine is so stupidly complicated that whipping the head off is not an easy option though.
