Ok i have looked through previous threads and took advice from there but have now come to dead end! this is how i proceeded, firstly it was just the HDC amber light on, no main brake lights just the small centre one on the spare tyre, so i checked the gear stick hdc part and found the wires were not connected? tried to hold them in the right postion but still the amber light was on and also the 2nd amigo came to visit ABS light now on??? checked the brake sensor switch on the pedal which seemed free and all ok, brake light bulbs are fine,
Any ideas people:confused:

The wires break off the gearstick switch (what a s**te design). I bought a switch from ebay (£3.00). It fits nicely in the blank space below the drivers window switch. Re-route the cable, solder in place. Job done.

I don't get this.....why should the wires disconnected cause the amber HDC light to come on?
If connected properly no circuit is made until the switch on the gearstick is activated. That would be normal at start up surely. A disconnected switch is no different to not pressing the switch?

The Hippo just knows its not feeling well and throws a fault code:)

The wonders of diagnostic enabled cars I presume.

Take my brake light swith for example, the contact for the brake lights was burnt out, you would think I would just get no brake lights. But the hippo knows its ill and throws the TC and HDC lights as a warning.

I would 1st connect the HDC switch properly, solder the wires back on, and take it from there.
Been playing around a bit with it today, fitted new exhaust and rear brakes then had a look at this HDC, Checked all the fuses which were all good, checked the brake light switch which was all good, then touched the wires from the hdc back on the solder points ( wasnt sure which way they went but tried both scenarios looked up and it was gone! BUT... it has gone full stop, it does not come up when the ignition is turned of then back on???????????? and the ABS light is still on but a positive is that the brake lights have come back on.
Still got the tyre wear issue to sort out too ...............
