I searched, before anyone starts, and kinda found a link to my problem, but not really pointing at a cause.

Ive a 96 300tdi disco, was my dads, so just had a basic stereo in there, cos all he was bothered about was listening to radio 4.
Pulled the old one out, put my stereo in it, all was good, pushed it in place, and it all went off.
As did the interior lights, and the clock.
Now I found out by searching that fuse 6 on one of the satellite sections could have blown, and sure enough it had.
This 20A fuse is also linked to the trailer wiring.
I didnt have any 20A fuses to replace it with, so put in a 15A that I had to hand just to try, and everything came back to life, but, with the head unit on standby, it popped again.

Now, I understand that the fuse blew for a reason, but could anyone shed any light as to what that could be, as I cant imagine a head unit on standby would draw over 15 Amps.
Ive checked the loom behind the head unit and all the wiring seems ok, no worn or melted sections (unlike a previous car I had!!!), and all the other fuses appear to be fine.

Any ideas anyone?

cheers for the replies guys.
Im outa fuses and my local factors isnt open today, and I refuse to pay 2 quid for a couple fuses at halfrauds, so gonna have to wait til tomorrow to check further.

I dont think its the head unit as that was fine in the last car I had, and like I said the disco was my dads, so I know it didnt have this problem previously, so its quite confusing tbh.

Ill do some further checks tomorrow when Ive some fuses, and hopefully get to the bottom of this.

Well dont I feel like a ****!
It appears that I may have been causing a short when installing the new head unit myself.
There's a flylead on the battery live wire for installs which require it, and the rubber insulator on the bullet connector on the end of it had pulled back, probably just enough to catch on metalwork behind the dash, popping the fuse in the process!

Thanks for the advice anyways guys.
