My central locking packed up the other day. When I press the fob button the lights flash and alarm arms but none of the doors lock. Tried with the key in drivers door and only drivers door will lock , so have to press all the buttons down then lock the drivers door. Ive taken the door panel off and exposed the servo thingy . When I key the fob the servo makes a squeak noise but the arm doesn,t move. Is there a way to repair or service them or do I just need a new servo. 94 300 tdi.

Yes the actuators can be repaired, but as they are a sealed item you will have to split the case along the seam. Sometimes the motor seizes the grease dries up and then the drive cog jumps off the operating rods track or maybe the micro switch requires ajustment.

Try assisting the movement of the operating arm when using the fob if that works they u may get away with drilling a small hole in the actuators case and injecting a small splash of WD40.

If you wish to replace the master actuator then Maplin's do a patten part which u can adapt to work.

Thanks Discool. Ive got the servo open and oiled inside and all seems to be working only thing is I cant get it back together to work  There is a plate that has teeth along it that are moved by the drive cog and there is a sort of hook projection on the plate but what position does it sit when you put it back together ? Ive been at it for ages and my hair is starting to fall out .

I had to do my boot door last Saturday and it took a few hours just to sus out.
It's trial & error and I didn't make notes but with the lock still connected to the door power you will have to reposition the toothed rod each time and hold the case together and operate the system via the fob, it will all fall into place as mine did... then duck tape the case together.

A new unit from Maplins is only about £10 - not worth going bald over:)

Im half way there already. Whats a few more hairs ?:D The cogs on the drive only seem to move in one direction. I thought they would move forward and back. Ill go and have another go and if I break it Ill have to buy anew one.

I gave up in the end while Ive still got a little hair left:D Ive put everything back together so I can at least use the car. Does anyone know the part I would need to replace the servo[its the one in the drivers door] and would that one not working make all the others not work . It couldn,t be the battery could it ? I would think if theres enough power to turn the engine ,then there would be plenty to work the central locking.

Ive got the 5 wire actuator . Turned out there is a Maplin about a mile from my house in Stockport town centre and they had two in. New one has black, white, brown blue and green wires . Is the best way to connect to cut off about 1 inch from the old plug then crimp onto new connectors with a pair of pliars ?Discool said the original wire are a different colour. Which wire goes where ? No instructions of any kind in the box

What did I say.. and I can also prodict the loto numbers but I won't :D

Maplin did a PDF link on wiring, colours etc but now seem to have removed it.
I will have to go to my desktop where I have the Maplin info so "I will be back". as they say.
In the mean time u need to know what existing wire colours do what, as per the wiring diagram in the Haynes manual.

And it's crimp/solder connections.

Ok mr rollin danny. U will have to sus which Maplin wire goes to the existing wiring by trial & error the Maplin colours/function as follows: Brown and White are the lock/unlock supply which is which I have no idear as no info is given but u only have to reverse the two wires.
Black is ground which u may or may not need.

Do that side first and get that door functioning and then move on to the slaves.

Blue and Green go to the slaves actuators in the other four doors which are all common, again no info but u only have to reverse the two connections to get them working.

If I new how to transfer a PDF file you could have that but it only shows how to connect to a Sparkrite alarm-CL system which your Maplin actuator is part of the kit.

You can get away with only connecting 2 wires if you only use the remote. You will need to connect all 5 wires for it to work from the key. If you have a test light or multi-metre i can explain how to find what each wire does!

I,m going out to tackle it tommorow  So your saying I have to connect the new actuator and then go round a change over two wires on each of the slaves ? Ive got me trusty Haynes manual and only shows four wires in the diagram. pink and orange to the other slaves , black is earth and pink/brown to the battery. Bob, I haven't got a multimeter , maybe it would be worth getting one if not to expensive. Thanks .

If the pink and orange go to the other slave motors then connect those to the blue/green on your new motor. The locking will then work from the remote. Simply swap the wires round if it locks/unlocks opposite to the other doors!
