An odd question, but humour me please

I have only had my 2001 TD5 Disco for a week and I'm still getting used to the rocking and rolling that thease vehicles produce. I know that they are also in permanent 4 wheel drive ( unlike the Trooper I used to have which you could put into 4 x 4 ) However my question is this:-

When I am driving it feels like there is a restrictive forward motion ie as if the brakes are on. but not permently. It's like a forward rocking motion. There is plenty of power from the acceleration and the car runs smoothly on a straight flat road. There is no juddering or anything like that. Is this normal? I asked my husband to take it for a run and he says it's fine but then he always says that and only when it breaks down is my point proved. so for all you seasoned Landy drivers out there can you tell me if I'm being paranoid or to get used to it!!

ps I love my Landy :):)
 
It could easily be a sticking caliper!

start with the easy stuff and jack the wheels up and see if you can hear/feel any resistance in turning...

and then everything else obviously.

BEST bet is to befriend another TD5 owner and swap cars and see the difference.

Is it caused when you let off the accelerator a little? My D1 can rock forwards quite a bit if i let off too suddenly but not enough to slow down, speed-bumps can set up a very odd backwards/forwards rocking if i dont tackle them right, i need to make sure she comes over the top accelerating rather than coasting then all is well, its caused by the sloppy transmission line but is quite easy to control now i know what to do :)

I found it quite worrying until i sussed it out, if you catch it totally wrong it can be quite severe and the only way to stop it is to plant the accelerator for a few seconds or drop the clutch. I find it worst in 1st or 2nd and can now adapt my driving to avoid it almost completely.

Think this is known as transmission shunt, a lot of this dissapered on my D1 when i disconnected the EGR. I got it when driving with light throttle and didn't quite get the gear change right it would shunt/hunt felt like i was comming on and of the throttle quickly if that makes any sense to you.
 
you guys are great, thanks oldskool and davek0974 you are both right. At least it's not a major problem and I don't have to worry any more.

Right for my next numpty question.............lol
