as the owner or 2 (yes I know !) discovery TD5's I'm always busy .
Doing the black autos head gasket and found this !!!

Difficult job ? I can see the crank pulley and front engine casing need to come off and I believe the sump none of which fazes me apart from the crank pulley !! Any tips ?

I understand it is F tight, ideal would be a realy good impact gun. I have seen posts where people make a brace from angle iron or similar bolt it to the pulley then jam this against the ground and use a huge bar or even hire a big torque wrench which will remove the bolt and allow them to torque it up correctly when it goes back.
Try a quick Google and see if you can find some inspiration.

Here you go

That was to tighten but just reverse the belt to slacken

(That was on a 300 Disco)

Now , as the heads off I have the engine timed up ( crank locked with the bell housing tool ) will that be enough to hold it ?[/QUOTE
Not sure how strong the pins are but If it takes a 5 foot pole to move the pulley bolt that would be quite a bit of force, don't want to bust the pin or worse damage the bell housing.
