I have a 1.8 Freelander with HGF.

Does anyone know of anyone who has sucessfully fitted an alternative to the wonderfully reliable K series???

Obviously other items such as engine managment and wiring looms would also have to be swapped/modfied.

Any thoughts/comments are welcome.

You could do a Diesel 'L' series conversion. (plenty in post 96 Rover 200/400 vehicles)

Or you could have a go at a Petrol 'T' series engine from the rover 220, 420 or 820 models. I almost did this, but decided against as my 220 had covered 170,000 faultless miles.

Or you could remove the engine, gearbox, props, VCU, rear diff etc and drop onto a 100" Range Rover or Discovery chassis and use a juicy v8 to waft it along. Freelander wheelbase is also 100" and I may have a go at this if my running gear ever fails badly....

Steve

i like the idea of a v8 one... i had a lada niva 4x4 with a fiat 16v mira furi engine in went like stink!!!!

The white freelander you mention is a GRP (fibreglass) body fitted to a traditional Land Rover chassis. There was a full article about it in a previous LRO mag. I'll see if i can find....

I like the look of it and thought (for simplicity and cost implications) about using my bodyshell in future as a project.....
