Hi Guys
the conversion has progressed well, vehicle up and running but my battery is going flat , and i have no battery light on dash upon starting ?
I think the altenator may be shot but due to lack of wiring diagrams anywhere , internet or manuals on military 110s i dont even know if i have the thing wired in properly ?
Does anybody know how to wire in a 300tdi altenator to a 1994 military defender wiring loom please ?
cheers all

I’m fairly certain that I used the engine loom from the na when I did my conversion, and the 300tdi alternator connected up exactly the same as the n/a one....I’m sure I didn’t have to change a thing.

just the two wires ?
I have been told if the battery warning light doesnt light up the bulb could be blown and acts like a fuse then it wont allow the battery to charge ?
i have tried a multi meter direct from the heavy output cable and to earth < nothing , 0.volts ?
i am unsure if there is a third wire that needs connecting to initiate the altenator to charge ?

My 90 isn’t here atm or I would go and check the alternator connections, but iirc there is a thick brown wire on the large terminal, a thin brown wire and a thin white wire (can’t remember what terminals are marked up as for those 2 wires though).
I do know that the charge light didn’t light up on mine and the battery still charged. What I can’t remember, for the life of me, is if it was the bulb or the alternator at fault........

This is bugging me now because I can’t remember what my own alternator wiring is!!
According to google....
On the alternator-
Thick brown wire goes to B+
Thin brown wire goes to D+ (and is connected to the charge light)
If there is a white wire, it goes to the W terminal and is used for a rev counter.

This white wire is the one that is confusing me because I don’t have a rev counter! I may well be thinking of a discovery application and getting mixed up. It certainly doesn’t affect the functioning of the alternator.

I will fetch my Land Rover from work tomorrow (left it there and went on the lash last night!,), and take a photo of the back of my alternator.
