Hi , i've just bought a 2000 P38 Vogue with the Alpine Head unit and HK speaker set-up.

The only thing i didnt check at time of purchase was the stereo! and sure enough when i finally switch it on half way up the M6 - one side of the car is significantly loder than the other (drivers side louder)

When i got home , i adjusted balance , fader and DSP settings - on the spatial setting there is signal getting to passenger side front and back doors , but nowhere near as loud as drivers side. With DSP off, the passenger side set-up is barely audible no matter what the balance and fader settings are.

Today i removed the head unit to see if it was a bad connection at the back of the unit - but couldnt really find anything - however when i reconnected everything i've now only got the drivers door working with every other door making a crackling sound - so i'm thinking i've got a problem with the head unit.

I'm in Durham in the UK - can anyone give some advice as to where to go next - or where i can send the head unit to get it checked over ?

Many thanks for your help

i live in shildon down the road from you mate, and i believe i have the same clarion that you have as mine a 2000 vogue but i removed it after my dsp amp went so your welcome to come and try it to see if it cures it;)

the dsp amp is bolted into the body behind the soundproofing, behind the subwoofer in the rear of the car, basicly all the speaker wires go to the amp apart from the front tweeters, which go direct to the stereo;) as for checking it out i took it to the dealer as i had no sound coming from it,even swapping stereos didn,t work, they did a test and then give me the good news of £300 + just for the amp, thats why ive stripped it all out
and put aftermarket equipment in

Thanks for the feedback andy.

I spoke to Tom at Roverville UK via email. (very helpful guy - thanks tom :) ) He told me that they can no longer obtain parts to repair the alpine head unit - so if the head unit is kaputt....then i need an aftermarket unit. my concern is - how am i going to work out whether the DSP unit is at fault or the head unit - or the door amps etc etc?

haha! i guess this is headache no. 1 of potential many in range rovewr ownership :)

your welcome to come and try the one i have,as aftermarket ones don,t work on the dsp setup because of the speakers,ie your music will sound crap, becuase it is a specific made all in one system,if you go aftermarket you need to replace the speakers aswell, like i had to;)
