'91Discovery v8 man.
Afternoon all, have just become a member of the Discovery fan club after a mate offered me a very solid '91 V8 for fuel hauling duties up here in the Scottish Borders. It has a years ticket, tax, and a host of little things needing tidied up and but I'm thoroughly enjoying using it! (fuel addiction not withstanding of course...........lol!!)
Just wondering about purchasing a set of 2nd hand alloys with tyres as at the moment the tyres on it are very mix and match with not a lot of rubber left.
Can anyone advise me please what alloys will fit a mk1? (looking for standard land rover rims....) as there seem to be a myriad out there. Can it take the 18'' star (?) pattern alloys I've seen on an '01 V8?
Any advice gratefully received,
Cheers,
Ken

The thread pattern is smaller on disco 2's (98-'04) than disco 1's 200 series (89? -94, like yours) and 300 series (94-98). So unless you spend £300+ on hub adaptors which'll have the same effect as spacers (wearing your wheel bearings to hell) thats a no. If you want a little more height, get 16x7 alloys, or genuine second hands, and fit 235/85R16 tyres, not much needed to fit them in with little change to car.

Look at 'common faults and questions' thread on main page, and 'what tyres can i put on my disco' thread, links on the first post to a great table telling you about tyre sizes and mods needed. The other one is a flash program telling you the difference in understandable terms between tires you have on (so probs 205/80 or 235/70) and what you want.

Hi, thank-you for your recommendations, duly noted and being read as i type!!!!
(may be a slight delay on the wheel/tyre project as it appears bottom rear door hinge has broken, a not uncommon fault as i now have read.............lol!!)
Cheers, Ken
