When travelling over 45mph and I need to brake, no matter how lightly, there is a juddering. Mainly through the steering wheel and a bit through the brake pedal. I.e. travelling on the motorway the other night and had to slow down sharpish with little warning and it felt like the whole vehicle was juddering, to the extent that I felt I had to hang on the steering wheel and not change down!! Was quite scary! Once below 45mph it lessens and changing down is not an issue. I'm down in Cornwall for the next week (leaving on Friday) and I reckon I should get this checked out before I leave... Any Kernish peeps with any suggestions of who I take it to? Thank you!

disc's seems to be it. When the rear ones are shot you get a pulsing throught the brake pedal, rear ones dowhat you've got

Wouldn't that be at any speed though? Could it be wheel balancing?

Nop, wheel balancing would be at a certain or any speed, if only under braking its more than likely the discs gone...

its easy to change them....but a bit of hard work...

wheel off, shafts off, wheel bearings off, hub off, then separate the disc from the hun...

easy job, even easier with an impact gun as separating the discs from the hub is a right pain

Hi Bell just seen this, correct me im wrong but this has just come out of a garage for wheel bearing and ABS problems hasn't it?? if it's making the steering wheel vibrate and also the brake pedal pulse it gonna be front brake discs.

Was this happening when you picked the car up or did it start after you was already on your way to cornwall and has it got worse the further you have driven, My concern is somthing hasn't been put back together properly and is starting to fail.

Discs and pads - that will solve the problem! Depends where in cornwall you are;

Cornwall 4x4 - Bugle, St Austell
DP Landrover - Temple, Bodmin
LR Services camborne.
One on the way to wynards perch, but can't remember his name!

Others around, but those are top of my head.

Or there is our garage, if you have any probs - the lads son has an s2 so know what they are doing.

DP on the moors at Temple is really good and will sort you out.

You could always try the garage in Losty up by the railway bridge, they might be able to diagnose and resolve it quite quickly - they're not too bad there!

If it was wheel balancing you would get it every time you do that speed, not just under braking.

Ahhhh OK, that makes sense

Warping or damage to the discs. I've seen the machined contact surface on a brake disc brake away in clumps which gave a similar feeling when braking.

Really? Eeeek!!

But it's not just the brake pedal, it's the whole vehicle that judders. Haven't driven it anywhere today, been too busy with post wedding (not mine) malarkeys and people like me who came down to for it, who are still here. Am going to get it sorted tomorrow though.

Well, you say easy, but that sounds damn complicated to me. I am the tea maker extraordinaire lol

Yes, new Wheel bearing hub and ABS sensor (within the hub), SVS and computer...

It had slightly done this on the odd occassion previously, but as I rarely ever get to 50mph around where I live, even on the run to work, it's easily forgotten

Thank you both for these Am down in St Mawes atm, but will get on the phone in the am

Anybody thought it could be something simple like a track rod end, had this before and you think the car is going to fall apart but under 30 it was like there was nothing wrong.

I can't find anywhere that can look at it before Monday - well I'll be back home (hopefully) and at work by then! They all seem to reckon it's a warped disc and that I'll just have to drive carefully. I do TRY to drive carefully, it's the other dickheads on the road I can't answer for... Humph! Can't say I'm looking forward to driving back, but at least this time it will be in daylight and split over 2 days.
