Hi guys,

I've got my 1st ever land rover, it's a 300tdi.
Everytime I unlock the car my alarm goes off so I have to lock and unlock again quickly to de-activate alarm. Have you any idea what could be causing it or if there's a way that I could disable the alarm all together?

Thanks in advance.

explain better... it goes off when you unlock with fob or just when you open the door after you unlocked? anyway IMO you may need a new alarm ECU or you may try this cos it's cheaper DISCOVERY 300 TDI. ALARM / IMMOBILISER SPIDER BYPASS | eBay

and by the way, 300Tdi is not a Disco 2;)

OK, i'm not gonna contradict you as i'm sure you know better when it comes abouit D1(i entered here as it was under the D2 prefix;)) ... but as a principle, whch is valid for all the L.R. alarm systems i tell you that you can't speak separately about alarm and immobiliser as they are linked and work together, to simplify the alarm is the audible part of the immobiliser as when you hear the alarm it means that the car is also immobilised... though at D1 it can be immobilised even without sound and i know that the spider bypass is mainly for that just that i thought it's a strange glitch there and it might help:eek:

also afaik with two button fob you can set it on "always disarm with key" (like the D2) and then it will disarm even without fob as well

D2 prefix. D2s don't have "spiders" for immobilising do they, the later D1 have a passive system similar to D2s but use the so call spider to carry out this function.

You will find that the alarm and immobiliser is part of the LR Security System that is the only relationship they have, they are independent with a D1.

Even if the option is available in the D1s ' spider equipped security system, I can't say that I know of anyone who with the use of a functional remote central locking would wont to change to key locking. :)

As Discool says fitting a spider bypass will have no effect on the operation of the alarm, but if you want to fit one dont pay £18,they are cheaper here - Loom AMR4956 Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order.
Its a good idea for reliability as the smart spider suffers failed joints leading to no starts.
When you have sorted, out what is wrong with it I would disconnect the alarm sounder,as your alarm is more likely to encourage a brick through the windscreen than stop any thief.

For me it's always a pleasure to "argue" with you;)
1. the "always with key" setting is for functional central remote locking too , just that if the fob/receiver fails the alarm will not go off and the car will not end up immobilised if you unlock with the key.

2 for me the immobiliser will always be part of the alarm as long as it's settings are all under the alarm menu in any tester ...and vice versa, off course there are settings to turn off the sound or the passive immobiliser but on factory settings when the alarm goes off the immobiliser kicks in too

3. i admit that i dunno much about D1 alarm so i rest my case... i told about the D2 prefix just to show that it was the reasom i found myself in this topic, that's all:)

I'm sure you know that even though the vehicle is unlocked and the alarm is not set the passive immobiliser will be functioning as indicated by the red dash light, the immobiliser is not dependant on the setting of the alarm or indeed it's activation.

The only function the key has is entering the access code should it be found that fob or receiver has failed.:D

i'm sure too that you know to not mix the "main" immobiliser(the one which works always with the alarm:p) with the passive immobiliser...which can be disabled as setting(or in this case with a spider bypass as you enlighted me)...these are two different systems...at least that's on a D2 , the "main" immobiliser is part of the alarm and always works together with it by immobilising the car if the alarm goes of for some reason and the passive immobiliser which kicks in if the alarm is disabled somehow but the wrong key is put in the ignition.... that's why it's named "robust" immobiliser on some of the modells e.g. Freelander...but the principle is the same IMO on all of them
