Hello out there !
I am having problems with the alarm and central locking on my Defender 2005. If you lock it with key fob it will beep to tell you something is open which there is not. It sometimes locks but if it does then the alarm will activate within the hour. If you just use the key in the door then it just keeps instantly unlocking. I have changed batteries in both fobs and replaced dodgy switch under the bonnet that tells you if bonnet is shut or not.
Any ideas ?
Cheers
Alan.

Firstly have you checked each of the door switches they make to earth when a door is open.
I have known a wire from the switch come off (only one wire is fitted) it then touches the body inside the box section, door appears open to the alarm when in fact it is closed. Also this wire having fallen off will not be making the best of contacts which may allow the alarm/central locking to work sometimes and sometimes not.
An easy check would be to ensure that the interior lights operate correctly when the doors are opened and go off when closed.

Thanks Tim I will check that out. The interior light does not work all the time so could be a good shout !
