air suspension compressor

Hi all looking for a new air suspension compressor for my landrover disco2 td5. Best price i have been quoted so far is £280 delivered. Does anyone no of any one else selling new ones any cheaper?! Regards Mark

unless it's ****ed or different to p38 version-buy a seal kit

I think that's the price...... I suppose U speak about the whole compressor assy not just the compressor itself......If u're sure that just the "pump" is faulty and u want to save money there are possibilities to improvise...........U can find a cheap technically and sizely similar compressor and all u have to do is to improvise and instal it into the assy instead of the old one(eventually u have to drill new holes in the assy chassis).......I saw this done with my own eyes....a friend used a russian made compressor bought from a market for (approx.) £25........believe me it's pumping the hell out of the springs:clap2:...... just have to be ingenious and handy

I didn't know you could buy a seal kit for an air suspension compressor - tell me more please?

Fairly sure they are different to a p38 compressor but would be interested to know if it were possible to get a seal kit.

No kits for the Disco compressor, and its vastly different to the P38 one externally, not sure about internally....have stripped down a D2 one, not much to it tbh, but never ripped a P38 one apart yet.

If Wabco would supply "parts", lots of compressors could be easily salvaged a lot cheaper.

I just replaced my d2 compressor today spend all last Monday searching, Belfast Landrover Centre £245+vat, dealer £288+vat,eventually got one from Equicar 4x4 UK used parts - used spares - accessories - 4x4 Breakers, Land Rover, Toyota, Mitsubishi shogun, Jeep, 4x4 Dismantlers, Spare Parts, Used Parts, off road, cherokee, discovery, accessories., tel: for £125+vat of a broken one, working a treat. Well worth the phone call on Monday morning !

Thanks everyone just thought i would drop the unit of the motor today as it was such a nice day. I hot wired the compressor in my workshop and it seems to be fine (pumps etc ) and i have energised solonoids on check valves and all seems to be good. But the light is still on dashboard and it wont pump up when connected to car. The air bags are new and have been checked for leaks just in case. I have even tried to jack the car up just in case the suspension is in a safe or transport mode via the ride height sensors. Do you recken it could be a nanocom or dealer thing now or have imissed something. Cheers all Mark

If the light is on it means it is a fault recognised by SLABS ECU.....the easyest way is to read the fault code via tester(nanocom/hawkeye/testbook/etc).....saves U a lot of neurones and u'll know where to put your hands after

I may have missed it, but I don't recall you saying what problem it is that you are trying to solve?

Most air suspension problems are caused by ageing bag or ride height sensors, rather than the compressor.

hi just to re iterate what the problem is . The car is down on its arse and the pump wont innitaite. There is a light on dash (picture of car with arrow up and down) and even with all doors shut windows shut etc it wont inntiate to pump up. Also even when i manualy prss the raise button nothing happens. the pump has been removed and tested on bench and motor runs pumps and check valves all work. Fuse and relay have been tested. for some reason its not getting the message to pump up.

You need to check whether the relay coil is being energised or not.

If so, is power present at the relay contacts? etc.

the warning lamp means one of these:

Failure modes
Failures are indicated by the SLS warning lamp in the bottom left corner of the instrument pack illuminating
continuously in an amber colour. The following tables show the type of system failures and their effects on the system operation.
Failure Effect
Sensor output stuck at 5 V Vehicle will not level
Sensor output stuck at 0 V Vehicle will not level
Mechanical link between radius arm and sensor broken Vehicle will not level
Harness leads to door(s) shorted to earth Air suspension will not level
Valves open or short circuit Vehicle does not level or levels unevenly
Faulty relay, harness fault or compressor fault Vehicle does not level upwards

cheers, will try a few of these sugestions in the morning. Just out of interest is there a test for the ride height sensors ie resistance parameters.

They output a varying voltage as I understand it - you can certainly check them with a nanocom and view their outputs.

Hi Landmark, ride height sensors are now being treated more as consumables, so what not replace them at only £20+vat each? Do both though.............................

Just ordered two new ride height sensors. They were certainly very 'crusty' and one of them was extremly stiff to move (interestingly this was the side i have always had a static lean on). When i get the new ride sensor's i pressume it still wont pump up though, or aat least until i connect it two a nanocom or a testbook at a dealership. Does ths sound about right and ifso does any one no when the new nanocom is coming out, or do you know of where i can get one from. I have ben looking at flea bay for some time and at the moment there only seems two be hawkeye's on there.

If your car was sitting at the correct height, it's a simple matter of disconnecting the battery neg lead, replacing the sensors and reconnecting the battery. No need for calibration.

Yours is sat down but you could jack up the chassis to the approximate correct height, then do as above and you should be fine.

Just a quick update. Put the new ride height sensors on as described, compressor kicked in and the old girl lifted. One side is much taller than the other so i guess now i'll have to calibrate. Desperate for nanocom now!!!
