hi can i just fit a custom style air cone filter from the turbo on my 300tdi defender and not bother with either standard land rover air boxs???

Yes you can but they are crap!
The std air filter is actually pretty good at its job and cheap as well.

Just the issue of space, I've moved the screen wash bottle and the square filter box is a pain to fit unless there is a step by step way of fitting?????

Why are you moving stuff?

It's easy to ask and get answers for each bit, @lynall is right, but what's the overall picture? There might be people who've done it already and could help better .. ;)

the 110 pick up had a V8 in it origianally and has now got 300TDi (91-96) engine (pre ECU), I think not sure and the guy i bought it off not to sure either. Just want to get things fitted more securely and looking at the air box that was already fitted but not securely is the square shape style and just thought save the hassle fit a custom cone fitter or something of like which will take up less room and give me easy access around that area.
Also think my injection pump is leaking anyone know any where local to Bedfordshire i could get this rebuilt or is possable to do this yourself, dont mind getting me hands dirty but just want to get the Landi back onto the road for me daughter.

'91 to 94 should be 200Tdi, 94 to 97 should be 300 .... but when they changed some ancillaries apparently migrated.

The 200 tdi engine, the pulleys at the front of the engine have two separate, single-vee belts. The 300 had a single serpentine poly-vee belt that is about an inch wide, and an automatic tensioner, mostly .... Also the 200 dipstick is on the passenger side of the engine with a loop at the top, the 300 dipstick is in the front with a yellow Tee-handle.

Its defiantly 300TDi use to own a Disco TDi 3 door many moons ago. is there anyway in finding out the year of the enigine so getting parts for it, as i need to get a machanical lift pump and also the injector pump may be leaking

is engine up against the rad? if so a standard 300 air box bolted to rear side of engine would be best bet

any 300 tdi lift pump they are all the same, you may well need nrc9771 and nrc9770 x 2 not all pumps come with them

Look on the drivers side of the cyl head towards the rear and there should be a small cast circle with the year and month of make/casting, of course theres a chance its not the original head but still worth a look.
