Hi

My air con is faulty so decided to get it tested at kwikfit. Vacuum tested ok, they got it running by bypassing the existing wiring. They want £50 per hour to diagnose where the wiring fault is and fix.

What's the cheapest way forward? Shall I get an auto-electrician to have a look or independent air con specialist?

Is there an obvious place to start looking for an air-con wiring fault?

Cheers

Download RAVE and look for yourself, the wiring for the aircon is pretty simple, you could start by looking at the fuses/relays.

Try taking it to your auto electrician I bet the clutch needs adjusting simple job $60
over in oz.
if the clutch is out that is to say the magnetic plate is to far away to stay connected it wont drive the compressor.

Keep up Pete
The man says that it works if you bypass the wiring so the clutch must be working.

Dual pressure switch cycles compressor clutch. Depends on year of car, pre 99 it is powered direct from Hevac unit. Post 99 it is powered by Hevac unit pulling in relay 3. Dual pressure switch is on drier. That's all the info you need to check the circuit.

Download the one from the link in my "How To".
From technical information click "Range Rover".
Click + next to "Electrical trouble shooting manuals".
Select year.
Click + next to "Circuit".
Look down list and select K4. "Heating with A/C.
Scroll through diagrams.
