2003 D2 Auto. For a few months I've noticed I've always got the "(14,1) Air Conditioning Fan Drive Op" (can't read the rest). The air con works fine and via Nanocom the fan with self-test. What could this fault mean?

Did you prompt on the small arrow arrow at the bottom of screen to see the whole message? ... IMO it's ..."open circuit" and it's possible to be intermittent so first move would be to put a new realy maybe the old one is it's "tired"

Does it relate to the aircon fan at the front of the radiator. Mine was rusted solid so I took it off, aircon still worked fine though.

It’s Open Load. I’ve tested the relay with a power probe and seems fine, have changed anyway though. The fan runs on the self test from Nanocom.

What would Open Load mean?

When that fault code appears means that the relay is not closed while it should be cos the circuit to it's coil(or the coil) is interrupted, can be due to bad contact in the fusebox or some involved connector

Ok thank you. I will leave the new relay in and see how it goes.

Yes, the aircon fan(on it's other name cooling fan)... That fan is quite important though cos it's there to help engine cooling too when it gets too hot. I'd not use the aircon without that fan in good working order cos it can cause serious damage if let's say the dual pressure switch which protects the system from overpressure gets stuck closed...or if the engine temp rises above 105*C which is not rare just that you dont know if you dont have an additional gauge as the factory gauge stays at the middle up to 119*C

Mine was rusted solid too when I got the vehicle but I got a good secondhand one straightaway

Following extensive research that indicated the fan did not kick in until the outside air temperature hit 27c I followed what others had done in the UK.
Don't matter to me now cos I've got rid of the rest of the car as well.

Think I just googled it, I've had a sleep since then.
Don't remember seeing anything saying it was a engine cooling fan at the time, but I supose that would make sense.
And it only assists cooling if the aircon is on.

Makes no difference if the air con is on or not, the fan can still cut in. Worth having working as the standard coolant temp gauge wont go to the red until it’s way past 105degrees

Anyway, it turns out I was looking at the wrong relay o_O and the actual fan relay wasn’t plugged in, it was just sitting there. No idea how the fan test worked with that relay not plugged in but no faults since!

IMO you overlooked something there cos the fan can get feed only through that relay, with the relay removed(which is R4 not others) it's technically impossible for the fan to work cos it doesnt get voltage whatsoever

Perhaps it was only just in and not seated properly. We’ll see!
