Long time no post, mostly because I've been queitly hatin me hippo. Looks like the head bolt re-torque and a bottle of K seal (I know, but what did I have to lose?) did the trick in plugging the tiny eggsauce gas leak. So my heater matrix now works reliably.

However, if I go above 57mph the temp gauge picks up and it runs a bit hot, about 3/4 on the dial. If I whack the heater on in the cabin I can go as fast as I pleases and the needle doesn't budge.

So I think me radiator might be naffed, it has done 126k and a few HGF's. Probably time to replace it. So does anyone know of a good quality aftermarket one? If this works I may be able to stick with it without the L series swap.

Ta,

Will.

I'm not sure how far into Derbyshire you are but if it isn't too far to come up to Wakefield, these are the best round these parts.
They'll re-core it as standard or up rate it if that's what your after.

Thats very interesting, how does it work??

In what way? I think I know what you mean.
You take the rad to them and they strip it down and fit new pipes and fins so in effect you've got a new radiator. A mate had a third row of added to the rad from his 90 as well as re-coring it for £140 IIRC.
It just depends whether its going to work out cheaper to buy new or have it rebuilt.
Distance wise it'd take about 45-50 minutes up the M1 from J28. ;)

Just found these at Chesterfield, £96 for a 2001, 1.8.
No idea what they're like though, might be another Mr Clutch...

I'd be tempted to flush it first. It could be blocked by the Kseal?

Rads with top and bottom tanks don't normally block with sealers however side tank rads like that in the Freelander are susceptible to it ;)

I doubt it, it was funny before we put the k seal in. We plushed it with water thoroughly, but if there is really stubborn sludge in there it may be compromised. I'd quite like a better radiator anyway if I'm going to re core it - a few more channels or something.

The standard radiator has all the cooling capacity required provided it's in in good condition. Don't forget the rad in your 1.8 is the same as the rad in my V6 which requires over twice the cooking capacity.
