Hi I am about 100 miles from home and workshop, do I risk the journey or get recovered? I started having trouble pulling away will only move off slowly, seems ok once up to 40 MPH cruised down motorway at 50 to 55 MPH pulled into services to check ATF level ( I know this should be done cold but had to make sure a leak was not the cause) Checked oil level next day when cold all ok and oil condition looking good (only done 6000 miles since last oil and filter) suspect TC is the problem has anyone else had similar and made it 100 miles.

I agree, best send the wife on the train as she will be a nervous wreck after about two roudabouts pulling away slower than an asthmatic snail

Revs going up but not a corresponding increase in speed? Drives OK in reverse? If so I'd hazard a guess that your 'A' clutch pack is very worn.
Issue with the earlier 4hp22 box.

For parts - incl the teflon rings - I've used these: https://jpat.co.uk/zf.html

Or this (from Ashcroft's site)
"Q. I can pull off in position 1 on the shifter and reverse is OK but in 'D' it will either not pull off or will crawl off in 3rd, why?
A. One of the internal one way clutches has failed which means that when you try to pull off in 'D' it slips for a few seconds before the ECU recognises a fault then the ECU puts it into 'limp home' which is 3rd gear, then it pulls off, its not easy to just charge this part so usually the whole box is replaced, note this fault can be caused if the chain in the transfer case is jumping."

Thanks to all for your words of wisdom, just got home and unpacked, probably the quickest I have ever done that journey as I had to keep it in lockup to avoid the dreaded slip, sounded like I was on and the rumble strip on the motorway depending on the drive load I may have an issue with the VC as well judging by the changes in handling (maybe that's the root of the problem with the additional load up some steep hills yesterday ) I'm a nearside lane plodder normally only putting my boot down to keep with the flow, so quite enjoyed a speedy one for a change abit hairy on hill start junctions but timed the traffic about right so not to cause too much chaos, just pleased not to to use recovery as mine only gets me to nearest garage.

A lot drop you off at nearest service station, in same boat as before you rang them :(

Trick is to go to your bank and ask them if they could offer better - they usually will, trust me. They have big contracts that the recovery companies can’t afford to p*** about unlike the quiet whimper of a single voice on the hard shoulder. Any ‘unhappy’ situations your bank will usually reimburse too

Atleast you got time driving back to think on the grindy bits. Glad you got back safe :)

Yes, thanks, another lucky one, only needed recovery once in over 35 years and if I knew then how to slip some welding rods in alongside the worn splines of a 110 output shaft I would have got home then as well.:)

I have an old fiesta with a worn TC which is what i assume you have..

I just sit it on the converter until it's time to go..

IE foot on brake and throttle until it's really grabbing on the brakes and launch it when ready to go.

Not really a permanent solution but one that works for me.

with me worn auto ')

I'll give that a go today but not to far from home, maybe throw the pushbike in the back so at least I can cycle to the pub while waiting for the mrs to bring out the defender,

I wrote on my fusebox lid which fuse you need for transfer neutral. Might be 5A in f11 but best check.

Had to use that first journey as head blew to bits day I bought it and my mate towed me off the M4 600 yrds from home. Dragged it down south with the 110 to my garage and replaced engine, apart from some rf issues had plodded on quite nicely the last 6 years. Best dust off the parts washer and rebuild the box...........when I have finished the other projects on the go. Looking a bit of a Land Rover graveyard outside the garage just now. Thanks again gents for the words of wisdom, enjoy the rest of the bank holiday.
