Hi all,
I am thinking of selling my 1999 50th anniversary freelander. The car is in nice condition with FSH I know they are not fetching a great deal just now and I am selling to go back to a Discovery as I am an upholsterer to trade and require the extra loading space available with the Disco.
My question is do you think I should try to exchange plus cash or try and sell as is then purchase. Does any one know how the market is for an exchange deal or is it no no? I appreciate any helpfull comments regarding the above.
Cheers!
Dick.

Just bought a very tidy 2001 '51plate 1.8 60k FSH for £1600 (waits for comments "you woz dun" etc) so not a good time to sell. Exchange would probably be better - and there are a lot of gullible people out there.:D

The land rover market is poor at the moment. A D3 v6 diesel with 50k miles on the clock, reasonable spec, 3 years old, main dealer serviced and all ok is aroung £12k. Thats a massive drop from it's original price 3 years ago. The last 6 months alone has seen that price fall from 15k. Freelander price falls are not as bad as that, but the markets full of 4x4 owners shifting them due to fuel costs experienced last year and the road tax changes.

Check out current prices of similar cars via Autotrader online then see what you get offered as a trade in.
A private sale then a cash purchase would allow you to call the shots....

Current economic climate is killing all prices.
can I ask......... What piece of kit doesn't fit into the FL?
As above, make the extra space.

Definitely. With my Freelander and £200 trailer I can shift most things. If I ever move house I'll put on my unused roof bars!
Just be careful of bridges and low-level power/phones lines and you should be ok. :D

Keep it I'd say. Drove my mates disco the other week - its a tractor. Great on the fields/lanes but down a stretch o dual carraigeway, horrible noisy. He says its a good one? Older than my hippo but not by much. Still he loves it so that's fair enough.

Hi, i have exactly the same car the 2.0 XEDI 50th ann, 1999, i have been around the garages in the last few weeks with a view to upgrading and found when asked the usual 'what do you want for your car' question and i answer with £1600 they laugh and say it's more likely to be £700-£1000 depending on mileage, so my advice is sell it first unless you dont mind the loss and then shop around and try and get a good deal and play one off the other, the garages like to think they have the upper hand, or you could buy privately and you still have the consumer rights with these as well. hope this helps

Put your details in here HONESTLY - adding any bumps or scratches and you will get a value they will pay you for the car. I sold mine this way a month ago as I needed shut of it fast (had already bought new car to replace it).
Turned up at Rochdale site (same place as CarCraft) and 40 mins later left without car. Had full receipts from them and money transferred to my bank 2 days later.

Sell My Car | Sell Your Car | Sell Used Car Online
(Its ^^ defaulted to that but the site is webuyanycar.com)

They email you a confirmation of the offer - and will pay that if you turn up and car is as described. If its not they will reduce the offer. I got the price they valued it at online.

I sold a 1999 2.0 Xedi.
I tried to get a valuation off Guy Salmon (Stockport) against a Freelander 2 but they wouldnt go outside to look at the car! Long story but in a nutshell the salesman there lost a nailed on sale of a Freelander 2 for being an arrogant git.
Best I got offered trading in was £800 to £1000 'ish' against £16k used vehicles. That webuyanycar site ^^ gave me just under £1,400 for it. (I got knocked for some dents and scratches which was fine by me).

Hello All,

Just looked at this site. I am in the motor trade and know the valuation of my vehicle but thought i would give it a go to see how close the valuation was.

Mine is a 06/56 Freelander Adventurer 2.0 TD4 Sw with 25 on the clock and full LRSH. Book price in glasses guide is roughly £7000 and the car is mint. It is unmarked bar a small mark in the plastic on rear bumper.

If i was buying the car in at my garage i would want to give £6250 -£6500 but as it has just been serviced i would go a touch higher.

They website said £3250.00

****ed!

I'm not surprised you're ****ed - Gordon's fuel and road taxes have pretty much wiped out the used 4x4 market. I paid 10k for a low mileage 2004 td4 sport auto sw back in early 2007 - 2 years later I'd be lucky to get 3.5k for it.
Like many others on here I'm resigned to the fact that my investment is gone and I'll be keeping the vehicle. I normally keep a car for 2-3 years and then change, but what with the current economic climate that's not gonna happen.
Having said that - it's not such a bad thing - it's a great car, drives well has never let me down (touches wood) and is fairly easy to service/maintain. Having said that I'm not looking forward to the day when really tricky/costly stuff needs doing such as diff's IRD's VCU's drive & prop shafts - I think once that happens it's time to move on.
