Hi, all. I have a 1999 300tdi disco and have done my own maintenance for the last two years of ownership, but would really appreciate any advice regarding my recent problems with gears. Recently it has been extremely difficult to put it into reverse and a little difficult to get 1st gear, (quite "notchy") After much research, I am of a mind that I have to drop the gearbox out to check either clutch or change baulk rings, (if I am able to.)
I have an engine crane and will largely be doing any work alone.
Thanks in advance
Vic.

Hi Vic, the last clutch change I did on a TDi 300 was by moving the gearbox baxkwards on a trolley, to create working room.

When fitting a new clutch kit don't forget to replace the fork for a HD item and replace the phosphor bronze spigot bearing at the same time.

Do not open the hydraulic circuit unless you want to create a whole heap of trouble for yourself.

Good luck

Dave
